In August, the firm of Donald D. Morgan PC CPA will move into a newly renovated 1,800-square-foot office in the Waters Building in downtown Grand Rapids. While that move keeps them in Center City—their previous office was in the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel—ironically, it also represents a new direction for the company.
“We've been gearing ourselves toward non-profit auditing and accounting, and we're ready to start focusing on that now,” says Bill Morgan, VP.
Bill and his dad, Donald, also plan to add three new employees by year’s end, bringing the total number of employees to 14. That goal, coupled with their expanded service offerings, meant larger digs.
“We’ve doubled our space,” Bill says. “We combined a couple of suites with the existing suite we’re moving into.”
Four offices, a conference room, a reception area, and a kitchen are just the beginning. The revamp prompted designers to cover the reception area walls with historic brick that matches the building’s facade. A 300-square-foot copy center provides room for four additional cubicles.
Although the father and son team considered several downtown options, none of them were the right fit.
“We weren’t even thinking the Waters Building Grubb & Ellis Paramount Commerce brought it up,” Bill says. “Chris Beckering brokered the deal for us, and the space is probably our best option.”
The firm’s total investment will amount to some $50,000. They move in on August 10.
