Brats, Bluegrass and BYOB: The Original Farm-To-Table

Saturday, August 18, 4:30 PM
With so much talk of farm-to-table, it might be nice to consider pulling up a chair at a table… just maybe not at your favorite local restaurant, since it might be tough getting a seat during the first weekend of Restaurant Week.

Instead, consider pulling up a seat at the table being prepared to benefit our local chapter of the international Slow Food at Creswick Farms, a tiny farm that has been making big waves in our region over the years.

This first-time informal celebration of Slow Food of West Michigan will be unlike other fundraisers in that your meal and music of the string bluegrass band Hawks and Owls is included in the admission price. You just have to bring your own beverage.

“Creswick Farms has been in the sustainable farming business for years now, showing others by example how it can be accomplished,” said Slow Food’s Veronica Phelps. "They are a common name in Slow Food households, yet just enough outside the area that not many have visited. We hope this rare chance to see their farm up close will entice people to check out this model farm firsthand.”

As a part of admission, guests will dine on one of many styles of brats/sausages produced at Creswick with sides provided by other local artisan venues including Lowell’s Kissing Rock Kitchens, Muskegon’s Mia and Grace, and Lubbers Family Farm’s Little Rooster bakery, providing the buns.

“The best part is that this event helps us continue our work in advancing our new Snail Seal of Approval program,” said Phelps, “and is about as close to farm-to-table as you are going to be able to get anywhere else this Saturday night.”

Admission: $10
