The Sketches That Lived: Whoopee Cushions need not apply

Wednesday, Oct. 21, 7 p.m.
It is hard to imagine that just four years ago we did not have an organization that would serve the needs of the young writer. Thankfully, the Creative Youth Center (CYC) was created, enabling our first writing-focused arts organization to not just debut but really flourish in Grand Rapids.

After years of producing fascinating collections of fresh literature, this year the CYC debuts a new era of writing with a variety aimed at your funny bone.

The Sketches that Lived is a collection of funny sketches and monologues created by CYC students during their summer workshop led by Calvin College’s Amy Gascon and presented on stage in this all-ages comedy show performed by professional adult actors. This is sure to be a fun-filled night of entertainment, so you can give your whoopee cushion the night off at home.

The evening’s program will be directed by Gascon (A Clashtick Christmas) and is hosted by artist/comedian Sarah-Jean Anderson, who recently joined the CYC board.

Immediately after the performance, mingle with the student artists and actors who will be attending a reception in the lobby of the theatre. The CYC provides free after-school programs for local youth ages 6-18, with an emphasis on creative and academic enrichment. Copies of their anthologies of literature will be on sale at this event including their latest release, Tiny Purple Thunder Lights.

Admission:  $10
