Cabin Time 2: Everything's Bogus on Friday

Friday, June 22, 7 PM
Cabin Time 1 came and went without much fanfare in Grand Rapids, but USA Today and Huffington Post took notice.

Now on the eve of Cabin Time 2, this artist residency program devoted to roaming to remote places (and off the grid) is producing national buzz again and all because local GVSU BFA graduate (and current Plenty employee) Geoffrey Holstad believed that artists venturing off the grid cannot only survive without the stereotypical air of exhaust and espresso machines, but that they can create noteworthy works in this experimental environmental.

For the second version of Cabin Time, over 100 artists from all over North America applied for one of the 18 residency slots at Bogus Lake near Grand Marais, MN, just steps from the Canadian border and Lake Superior.

The work that was produced by these artists will be on display and, in keeping with Nice Gallery’s mission to reinvigorate our art scene, they have built a 12'  x 12' cabin in their space to replicate the feeling of getting away, even if getting away for you only means hoping to the SW side of Grand Rapids.

“We are really excited to be able to showcase this work and hopefully the new video about the project on the cabin wall,” says Holstad. “We will also use this event to announce Cabin Time 3 and the list of six artists who have been invited to participate in another Midwest-based Cabin Time project.”

But Holstad is quick to point out that Cabin Time 4 will depart the Midwest and there will be another application process. He was tight-lipped on all other details.

To track all the fun going on as they prepare for Cabin Time’s gallery show, please visit their site for an original video along with a visual archive of the process. It’s all Nice…and that’s once again good for Grand Rapids artists all around.
