Dr. Sketchy's Five-Year Anniversary - Let Them Eat Cake!

Sunday, June 8, 5 - 8 p.m.
It is hard to imagine, but our local chapter of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School in Grand Rapids is turning five. To celebrate, you can expect all the decadent fun you have come to expect from this art school meshed with a performance art night devoted to boning up on your drawing skills (and held in a bar!).

Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School started in Brooklyn in 2005 and quickly spread worldwide as part of the contemporary alt.drawing movement. According to the international site, "Artists who attend draw glamorous underground performers in an atmosphere of boozy conviviality." To date more than 100 chapters have sprung up all over the world.

As its local headmistress, Vivacious Miss Audacious (aka Audria Larsen) has produced a truly decadent event to thank our community of artists, which they lovingly call Art Monkeys.

"With cake and an over-the-top celebration in mind, I landed on a Marie Antoinette theme, centering around her well-known, and thought to be inaccurate, quote, 'Let them eat cake,'" says Miss Audacious. "And we will do just that thanks to Jamie Springer of Bakery 73 who is baking desserts for participants along with champagne provided by the Dr. Sketchy's team."

As with every year's anniversary, the headmistress of the Dr. Sketchy's Grand Rapids branch models to mark the occasion, and as you can see in this Decadence Dolls image of Miss Audacious as Marie Antoinette, she is promising to pull out all the stops as she perches atop a giant multi-layer cake that will serve as a model stand (and is made from reclaimed wood from The Rezervoir Lounge's recent expansion).

The event offers folks who have left college or have always wanted to work with a live model an opportunity to do so with a group of people who value life drawing but also enjoy a healthy dose of blue comic   entertainment complete with games, prizes, access to great food (vegan menu, too) and generous drinks from a fabulous neighborhood pub in the heart of Creston.

The event will be hosted by Sarah Jean Anderson with a musical playlist compiled by Chris Eddy. BYOArt Supplies!

Admission: $10
