LadyfestGR: About (But Not Just for) the Ladies

Saturday, Mar. 22, see website for schedule of events
As we enter the last few days of March (and Women's History Month), for the women (and men) of this region, who embrace the DIY/DIT (Do It Yourself / Do It Together) culture, it must be time for the return of the annual LadyfestGR event.

Kicking off the day again this year is a series of free workshops taught by women and often revolving around topics of their concern. Again, men are welcome – this isn't the Women's Music Festival in Hart after all.

The workshops held in three locations, including Heartside Ministry (54 S. Division Ave), Have Company (136 S. Division Ave), and The Pyramid Scheme (68 Commerce SW), and will feature topics like Easy Bookmaking, a Women in Government panel, Synth 101 music class, The Business of Women, Climate Resiliency in the Age of the Ovary, and  others.

At night will be two music showcases, with the first one an all-ages event featuring a music and performance-based line-up, including acts San Juana Guillermo and Yolanda Cornejo, Girls Rock! Grand Rapids, Cemetery Circus, Peri Phillips, Angela Taylor and many more.

The day wraps with a powerhouse music concert with the main act The Blow - an electronic pop duo comprised of Khaela Maricich and Melissa Dyne, who also worked with the popular musical-way of life act YACHT. The way these two women perform is unlike anything else you have experienced in GR. They often stand at opposite sides of the room, engaging the audience in the middle with their open calls to participate in the performance and to be a part of this experiment-filled show that feature soundwaves, lightbeams, and invisible communications.

Opening for this showcase will be Nobody's Darlin' followed by DJ Lynnee Denise and Lady Ace Boogie, who will be on the ones and twos throughout the night.

Admission: Workshops are free / Music showcases varies, see website for details.
