Molly Bouwsma Schultz & Ryan K Wilson: Together

Tuesday, Dec. 9, 7 – 9:30 p.m.
Each Tuesday Bar Divani offers up a special night of a female vocalist in their intimate setting. This Tuesday you better get there early if you want to get a seat because this place will be packed as two powerful musicians in our community join up for a night of music.

When vocalist Molly Bouwsma Schultz (of Blue Molly) & singer/songwriter Ryan K Wilson meet up at Bar Divani they will be bringing in a night of classics -- and many of them in a fresh new set of jazz clothing.

Eschewing the trappings of most jazz artists, these two push the envelope, taking these songs on a journey and often transporting their meaning to a new era as a result.

While Molly is familiar with a variety of styles of music, she is always a breath away, it seems, from the bluesy and soulful sound that makes her a favorite in this area. You can expect this night to showcase her take on favorites from Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Etta James or Otis Redding.

“We will also seamlessly flow into a more modern song an act like Gnarles Barkley or maybe even an experimental version of a Radiohead song, like ‘Climbing Up The Walls', but sung as a ballad,” says Molly.

But Ryan also wants the audience to know that this is because they see other challenges as a result of their approach.

“It is fun and challenging to take songs we like and put our own twist on them, whether from the Beatles to Gnarls Barkley, and arrange the songs so that Molly can put her personal touch on them vocally,” says Ryan. “It is both rewarding and inspiring. We strive to give our audiences an engaging and intimate live music experience.”

This one-night offering is a rare treat since both acts tend to play with much larger bands and with an even bigger sound. Tuesday night in the downtown with these two -- well, it just doesn’t get better than that.
