Relax on Rosa: Free summer music series debuts in downtown GR

Debuts Thursday, May 5, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. (Through Sept. 15, 2016)
It is wonderful to be finally writing about an event that we can enjoy downtown because it is actually warming up and, most of all, due to its focus on the fine art of relaxing.

Following in the footsteps of other music series that have appeared in downtown over the years, Relax at Rosa — a nearly five-month’s worth of live entertainment programming occurring every Thursday during the summer of 2016 — is about to launch in the heart of downtown at Rosa Parks Circle.

Kicking off the series is Cabildo, who will be followed weekly by diverse musical acts like Kent County String Band, Ars Nova, The Boogie Woogie Kid!, and La Furia Del Ritmo Original.

OK, so maybe the choice of the opening act this year is not the most relaxing — but it is Cinco De Mayo, so this Latin American band is a most fitting choice to kick off our season in the sun.

Local food trucks that are a part of the Grand Rapids Food Truck Association will be on site this summer, with a variety appearing throughout the season, including A Moveable Feast Truck, Daddy Pete's BBQ, Pinkie's Ice Cream and Desserts, Pig Out on the Fly, Patty Matters, What The Truck, Blue Spoon, and RIX STIX Pronto Pup.

So, block out some time to make it down to Relax at Rosa and enjoy all the great local music on deck for what we will only hope will be a sun-kissed summer in the city.
