Star Wars Dance Party: Let's rock like it is 1977 again

Friday, Dec. 18, 9 p.m. (doors)
It is hard for many to imagine that the first Star Wars arrived nearly 40 years ago in 1977.

It is even harder to imagine that, after the film’s creator allowed one of the greatest film franchises to devolve into such a storied disaster (see Episodes 1-3),  so many of us had given up hope it would ever be rebooted.

This is finally the year fans of the Star Wars franchise have been waiting for, as the new film is opening worldwide on December 18. People are excited because a much-beloved director arrived at the helm,  J.J. Adams, ensuring that Lucas’s touch on Star Wars: The Force Awakens would be reduced to producing a landfill full of waste-generating merchandise for the new film that is everywhere.

While a branded toy or object is something for the future to decide on its value, film geeks like me just want to have fun now and out of the box — which means we will want to get to the Pyramid Scheme on Friday night for the Star Wars Dance Party.

Special event planner (and former Vault of Midnight employee) George Benson shared his reason for hosting another comic-themed party to welcome the first new Star Wars film to the big screen in 10 years.

“Few things cross over to multiple generations in the way Star Wars has, so to celebrate the idea of a universe in which multiple creatures and various ways of life are able to unite and fight against the evil that the Empire represents, gathering from all walks of life to dance, is the closest we can get to touching that world.” says event planner George Benson.

Fan-geeks of the series who attend this costumed dance party can save a few bucks by presenting a ticket stub indicating they have seen the film at an area theatre.

You have a lot of entertainment holiday choices these next few weeks, but I cannot think of a better way to celebrate Star Wars than attending Celebration Cinema at any one of their many locations in our region before heading into Grand Rapids to dance your booty off in a style that would make Mos Eisleys' even a bit jealous.

George Lucas may be making a small nation’s worth of wealth via ticket sales this weekend, but we can help redirect a few of your Star Wars fan-dollars to our community as well by attending this really fun dance event.

If you have enjoyed the other comic-themed events held at the Pyramid Scheme (who are often sponsored by Tardy's Collectors Corner & Vault of Midnight,) then you will really dig this one, too. Dressing up is half the fun, the other part is being there.

Admission: $7 in advance, $10 at the door.

G-Sync says, The best place to see the new Star Wars film is Grand Rapids' local theatre chain Celebration Cinema, as they have the best and most advanced projection/sound systems and added comfort seating ready for this big world-wide release. Splurge on the popcorn and soda, too.
