Michigan Modern: Todd Oldham Symposium Opening Night Lecture.

Thursday, June 19, 5:30 p.m. doors, 6 p.m. speaker presentation
The Michigan Modern event is in full swing and if you have not stopped by to attend any one of the numerous art exhibitions on display at the GRAM, Kendall College of Art and Design's Federal Building or UICA, then you are missing one of the greatest art events in our city's history as the roots, growth, and future of our region's influence on the world of design is on display.

The Michigan Modern: Design that Shaped America symposium begins on Thursday night and all eyes are on the opening night's lecture by Todd Oldham.

New York-based designer Oldham will address the GRAM audience about the first major retrospective on designer Alexander Girard’s work, published by AMMO books in 2012, which he edited. The book Alexander Girard showcases an extraordinary artist and designer that transformed all he touched. One of the most prolific mid-twentieth century designers, Girard’s work spanned many disciplines, including textile design, graphic design, typography, illustration, furniture design, interior design, product design, exhibit design, and architecture.

The symposium will feature other significant people and products and their worldwide influence on Modern design. See their site for a complete list for speakers, events and tours being offered.

Admission:  $250 ($175 for students)
