Detroit Free Press honors GVSU President and Herman Miller as two of Michigan's 16 "Green Leaders"

Grand Valley State University President Thomas J. Haas and Zeeland's Herman Miller Inc. have been cited by the Detroit Free Press as two of Michigan's 16 "Green Leaders" from among 350 statewide nominees. As the two winners from West Michigan, they will be featured in a special Free Press section on April 18 and honored at the first-ever Michigan Green Leaders awards program April 22 in Detroit.

According to excerpts from the story:

Haas . . . has led environmental stewardship across the campus and in the region with conservation, emissions reduction, building practices, local food advocacy and other efforts. Herman Miller, a Zeeland firm, was founded in the 1950s with environmental principles at its core and reported that as of May 2009, it was 83.5% of the way toward its goals for a zero environmental footprint.
