Grand Rapids urban experiment shoots for world record water balloon fight

This July, some 60,000 water balloons will commandeer the attention of thousands of local freedom fighters in a new urban experiment, drawing participants to Grand Rapids' Center City for 20 minutes of "battle." Other popular urban experiments like the Zombie Walk and the world's biggest pillow fight have attracted thousands of college students to the core city in the past year.

According to excerpts from the story:

July 4 could be a soggy celebration in Grand Rapids. Local "urban experiment" coordinator Rob Bliss is planning a huge water balloon fight Revolutionary War-style, according to a posting Thursday on his Facebook site. Several hundred people already have said they will be attending. The free event, dubbed the Independence Day Water Balloon Fight, will kick off at 5 p.m. July 4 in Rosa Parks Circle. Two teams -- the Redcoats (Red Team) and the Americans (Blue Team) -- will do battle for about 20 minutes, with 60,000 water balloons as the weapon of choice. The 20-minute fight will end with a group singalong to the national anthem.
