Wind farm operator training ground established at Kalamazoo Valley Community College

As West Michigan looks to clean energy to rebuild the region’s economy, one area college is the only school in the nation to certify wind farm operators using German training.

According to excerpts from the story:

KVCC will begin training wind farm operators for certification this fall. Kalamazoo Valley Community College has become a significant wind-power training ground with major announcements today. KVCC President Marilyn Schlack announced this morning that the school is the first place in the United States authorized to train students for wind-farm certification. The announcement followed the official startup of KVCC's recently installed 50-kilowatt wind turbine.

The German certification program, Bildungszentrum fur Erneuerbare Energien -- the Renewable Energy Education Center -- makes KVCC the only place in the nation for wind-farm operation certification -- there is no U.S. certificate. The program is globally recognized, and graduates can get jobs anywhere in the world, explained James DeHaven, KVCC's vice president for business and economic development. KVCC's program will be audited by the BZEE.
