Township in Montcalm County passes wind energy ordinance

The Greenville Daily News reports the Home Township Planning Commission in Montcalm County has approved an ordinance creating guidelines for wind energy systems.

After working on the ordinance for more than two years, Home Township Supervisor Calvin Beach says he and fellow board members hope it will inspire local residents and businesses to consider tapping into wind energy instead of conventional sources.

According to excerpts from the story:

"To the best of my knowledge this is the first local unit of government to take any action to adopt a wind ordinance," said (Commissioner John) Johansen, who also serves on the Montcalm County Planning Commission. "The Planning Commission is very interested in potential wind energy projects for the good of economic development."
