Two Grand Rapids architects have launched their own firm citing business trends that favor smaller, more flexible companies.

As architects in western Michigan scramble for work, Thomas Tooley did something very strange -- he started a new company.
The co-founder of Serve Studio left Beta Design in June along with partner Andrew Eckert to form the new venture in Grand Rapids's Eastown neighborhood.
"Most of our work is commercial corporate," Tooley said, "but we have done anything from industrial to lab to health care."
