One particular area of Holland has seen better days, but artists there are determined to change all that with the first-ever arts festival in the area, promoting the neighborhood as a new venue for artists. Next up: a proposed Corridor Improvement District with potential tax incentives to encourage new development and revitalization.
According to excerpts from the story:
HOLLAND -- Bed races and artists, authors and musicians drew crowds of neighbors and the curious Saturday to the first Columbia Art District Festival on Columbia Avenue.
"The festival has gotten off to a great start. It's all in a two-block area now but, as time goes on, we believe it is going to grow and expand," said DePree, operations director for the TickTock Studio film production company on Columbia.
The city will hold a public hearing next month on a proposal to create a Corridor Improvement Authority for this stretch of Columbia Avenue, which will open up the potential for tax incentives for improvements to the district.
