Local baker plans $18 million expansion for cereal and snack production, aims for 160 new jobs

Locally owned Roskam Baking Co. says it is expanding its offerings of food products, prompting the company to invest about $18 million in equipment and facilities over the next two years that may create an estimated 160 jobs.

According to excerpts from the story:

Roskam Baking Co. plans to create 160 new jobs the next two years with an $18 million expansion to produce more cereal and snacks under contract for major food companies.

The privately-owned company is asking the city for an eight-year tax abatement on its investment at two existing sites: 3225 32nd St. and 3035 32nd St. SE. The company, which contracts to manufacture cereal, croutons, snack mixes, and dry mix products, is expanding into four more food lines for its clients.

Chief Financial Officer John Lallo declined to say what types of food or what company contracts Roskam landed. But he say three of the new lines will begin in the next six months.
