The elegant Gothic giant that for 74 years has been the image of a local church will be sold to a developer who plans to keep its historic exterior intact.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church voted Sunday to sell its building at 330 Crescent St. NE, and buy a former post office annex vehicle maintenance building a mile away in the Heartside neighborhood.
Kentwood developer Mark Pentecost plans to convert the church into condominiums in a way that will preserve its historic appearance. Any exterior renovation would need approval from the city's Historic Preservation Commission because the building is in the Heritage Hill district.
