Bridgework speeds up access to Health Hill

The decades old four-lane Michigan Street bridge over Division Avenue will soon be a six-lane passageway with wider lanes, wider sidewalks, and right-turn lanes for east- and west-bound traffic. The project is part of an accelerated program for state infrastructure projects.

According to excerpts from the story:

The Michigan Department of Transportation began tearing down the four-lane bridge on Michigan Street over Division Avenue in mid-May and will replace it with an all-new six-lane bridge to enhance access to Michigan Street hill.

MDOT is rebuilding the bridge with more lane width, wider sidewalks and widened approaches to the bridge. In addition, there will be a dedicated bus lane to keep buses out of the flow of regular traffic.
