W MI development council receives $400K EPA Brownfield grant

Federal Brownfield grants were issued this week to 16 Michigan organizations, including the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council. The council will use the grant to assess the condition of 40 properties in a 13-community area.

CHICAGO, May 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Sixteen Michigan governmental organizations have been awarded a total of $5,594,000 in federal Brownfields grants, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5.

Those awarded $400,000 in grants included the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council of Western Michigan.

Brownfields are abandoned or underused sites where expansion, redevelopment or reuse may be complicated by the presence of a hazardous substance.
