A massive undertaking to re-develop several blocks of Heartside bounded by Division, Wealthy, and Jefferson Streets is coming to fruition and will bring green space and office workers to an area blighted by concrete and abandoned buildings. The result? A welcoming southern gateway to Grand Rapids’ downtown.

Venice has St. Mark's Square, attracting millions of picture-snapping tourists who stop to feed the pigeons near its namesake historic church.
Grand Rapids has the northeastern corner of Division Avenue and Wealthy Street, home to a contaminated old dry cleaners building, an empty warehouse and crumbling parking lots near a majestic cathedral many people, Catholic or not, have never seen.
Depending on the day, there might be a few hungry pigeons.
