Grand Rapids’ Cathedral Square brings ministries together, European design to downtown

A hub of activity, ministry and worship will centralize diverse offerings at the Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids. Bringing all those activities downtown maximizes visitors’ transit options and attracts people to the core city.

According to excerpts from the story:

GRAND RAPIDS — The Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids is now integrated more fully with the new Cathedral Square, which brings together offices, services and ministries into an 11-acre area downtown.

Catholic diocesan offices from Burton Street have moved downtown to the area anchored by the Cathedral of St. Andrew along with Catholic Central High School and St. Andrew’s Elementary School. Coordinated landscaping, the planned building of a plaza and Italian-style piazza are also part of the $22 million project.

"It’s very exciting. (Cathedral Square) brings together all of our services and ministries into one location," said Diocese of Grand Rapids Director of Communications Mary Harmon.
