Proposed Coopersville powdered milk facility could bring 156 jobs, $103M development

Efforts to seal the deal on a proposed dairy facility development are underway—a development that could bring nearly 160 jobs to West Michigan. If the deal goes through, a hulking and vacant former Delphi factory could find new life as a powdered milk manufacturing plant.

According to excerpts from the story:

COOPERSVILLE -- A northwest Indiana dairy marketing cooperative is considering building a $103.2 million powdered milk processing facility in the plant left vacant by Delphi Corp. Continental Dairy Products Inc. was to seek employment tax credits today from the Michigan Economic Growth Authority board for as many as 70 jobs in the new plant. The Fair Oaks, Ind., company also is considering sites in northeast Indiana's Steuben County and northwest Ohio's Williams County, according to Michigan Economic Development Corp. officials.

"The city, the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and Ottawa County Economic Development have been involved with Continental for months on economic development incentives," Coopersville City Manager Steve Patrick said Monday. "We've been working really hard with them to make something work. "I don't know if it will work."
