GRAND RAPIDS -- Deb Shimmel's search for environmentally friendly exterior house stain and refinishing products at local retail stores was a road to frustration.
That led to her determination to make it easier for consumers on similar hunts.
The result was West Michigan Eco-Center.
"I was looking for chemical-free, nontoxic paint and stripper, and I couldn't find any in town," Shimmel said. "I saw earth-friendly stuff on the Internet, but that meant shipping charges and a wait. That was the impetus for me to open a store."
