An after school program and new approaches to classroom teaching in two West Michigan schools were recognized for education excellence awards by the Michigan Association of School Boards. Statewide, 27 programs will be honored.

Educational programs at Reeths-Puffer Schools and Grand Haven Area Public Schools were recently named recipients of "2007 Education Excellence" awards by the Michigan Association of School Boards.
Award-winning schools are recognized for creating innovative programs that improve student achievement. Twenty-seven programs, including those at Reeths-Puffer and Grand Haven, will receive their awards May 8 at a luncheon in Bath.
Grand Haven's Lake Shore Middle School received an award for its efforts to improve student achievement for at-risk students.
Reeths-Puffer received its award in the "professional development category."
