Shoreline Fiber Network completes communications infrastructure

Expanded opportunities for learning, improved data processing between county offices, and instant communications between public safety entities are some of the benefits Muskegon county residents will reap as a result of the new Shoreline Fiber Network. Reduced costs for the 12 school districts in the county is at the top of the list.

After years of waiting and overcoming obstacles, the partners who have strung fiber-optic cables throughout Muskegon County to benefit its citizens gathered Tuesday to celebrate.

The Shoreline Fiber Network, launched more than five years ago, is complete -- a multimillion-dollar project that will speed up and expand communications and Internet services to schools, public safety institutions and county government operations.

The fiber can handle virtually an unlimited amount of data, speeding up Internet connections and connecting school classrooms, police and fire departments and the county's scattered government sites.
