Governor ready to sign Michigan’s film industry incentives

Lawmakers and economists are betting that Michigan’s drive to offer the country’s most attractive tax incentives for filmmakers will bring big money and thousands of jobs to the state, and soon. The governor expects to sign the package into law next week.

When Gov. Jennifer Granholm signs tax incentives aimed at making Michigan the country's most attractive place to make movies, they may come with a hefty price tag, according to the Senate Fiscal Agency in a recent report.

State Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-Zeeland, disagreed.

"It's typical naysaying. If the agency was doing its job previously, they would have said something before now," Huizenga said Tuesday.
