Airport officials say the Gerald R. Ford International Airport expansion creates an environment that could help attract more airlines and services in the future.
According to excerpts from the story:
A new, 4,900-car parking garage attached by a glass canopy and two skywalks to the Gerald R. Ford International Airport terminal is on schedule for completion next October.
"We started about this time last year. The parking structure is two-thirds finished," said Bruce Schedlbauer, airport spokesman. "We're finishing the glass on the roadway canopy that covers all the drive lanes between the parking structure and the terminal," he continued. "Whether you're walking or driving, you will be covered from the elements."
"An airport does not construct major infrastructure projects overnight," Schedlbauer said. "You can't simply plan and build for what demand is today -- you have to be looking out years. So even though there is a slight drop in traffic, this is being built for air traffic expected in the future."
