Growing new small businesses is one way that West Michigan can “pull itself out of the doldrums of our economy,” said Bing Goei, chairman of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and president/CEO of Eastern Floral & Gifts.
But he does not believe that will happen without first encouraging the establishment and expansion of racial minority- and women-owned businesses. “The new entrepreneurs in America are coming from those two population groups,” he said.
