Philanthropy key to renovating Theatre, landing Med School

The Grand Action committee continues its history of raising private funds for major projects in downtown Grand Rapids. The group is currently helping to finance the renovation of the historic Civic Theatre and the establishment of Michigan State University’s West Michigan Medical School.

David Frey is an unabashed cheerleader for downtown Grand Rapids, and visibly excited about Grand Action’s current project — the renovation of the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. Work on the century old community theater began in earnest May 1 with multiple shifts toiling to meet the fall deadline for the reopening of the theater on Division Street north of Fulton Avenue.

 

Grand Action is also focusing attention on the new Michigan State University West Michigan Medical School that will open in Grand Rapids.  “This (medical school) will become a research university that will work very closely with the Van Andel Institute,” Frey told MiBiz.
