A Grand Haven waterside development has not let go of the desire to have a Class A hotel and convention center at its heart, despite having to alter the original plans to increase the size and costs of the proposed hotel. Business generated by the hotel will put Grand Haven on the map as a destination for winter months as well as the heavily touristed summer season.
According to excerpts from the story:
The Grand Landing development is about to get even grander.
With the expected approval of the Grand Haven Planning Commission, enhancements will be made to the $70 million redevelopment plan for abandoned properties along the Grand River. A hotel, residential living space, underground parking, shops, restaurants, a business conference center and banquet facilities have all been proposed.
In the original plan, the proposed hotel did not meet the standards necessary to attract a national chain. However, after working with a national chain for nine months, developers have decided to build a 122-room hotel. The Conference Center would have Class A business meeting rooms, making it possible for attendees of business events to stay in the same building in which the event is taking place.
