GVSU dean says education drives future prosperity

Exploding population, rising poverty, growing demand for non-renewable resources, and other global mega trends suggest a challenging future for the human race. But higher education - and the technological evolution it fuels - is one key to a bright future, according to GVSU Dean H. James Willaims, who recently addressed the Economic Club of Grand Rapids.

The dean of Grand Valley State University's Seidman College of Business told members of the Economic Club of Grand Rapids the solutions to the world's challenges can best be addressed by business education, and by the young people coming of age in the next decade.

He said that by 2025, the average worker in an industrialized country can expect to make six to seven career changes in his or her lifetime as technologies are discovered, implemented and replaced by newer technologies.
