Spectrum, Bronson and Holland cited as among the nation's top 100 hospitals

Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids, Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo and Holland Hospital in Holland have been ranked this year as among the top 100 hospitals in the nation by Thomson Reuters. The hospitals were cited for their performance and clinical quality.

This is the second year Spectrum Health Hospital Group and Bronson Methodist Hospital earned a berth in the top rankings. There were 11 Michigan hospitals on the 2010 list, more than any other state in the nation.

According to excerpts from the story:

If every hospital performed at the level of the top 100, they would experience more than 98,000 fewer patients deaths annually, avoid more than 197,000 patient complications, costs would decline by $5.5 billion and the average length of stay would decline by half, according to Thomson Reuters.
