West Michigan aims to keep its talented workforce by offering dislocated workers free entrepreneurial training that could help them launch new businesses and create jobs.
According to excerpts from the story:
ZEELAND -- Oct. 21, 2008 -- Lakeshore Advantage, the economic development organization that helps businesses grow in the Holland, Zeeland and Saugatuck area, is sponsoring entrepreneurial training to help dislocated workers remain in the area. This program usually costs $700, but through the financial assistance of Ottawa County Michigan Works!, local workers who have lost their jobs due to the area’s larger employers downsizing in today’s tough economy are eligible for full scholarships to attend the program.
“It is unfortunate that some of our larger firms have to reduce their workforce, but in West Michigan we are very resourceful,” said Amanda Chocko, director of entrepreneurial development at Lakeshore Advantage. “It is our goal to keep these skilled and talented workers in our area and help them foster new opportunities. It’s a new beginning for many, a second chapter that will open many doors.”
