Grand Rapids aims for national Hispanic convention

Representatives of the League of United Latin American Citizens will visit Grand Rapids on April 14. They also are considering Los Angeles, Seattle, and other cities as the site for the group’s 2009 convention.

Getting a jump on 2009 convention planning, representatives of the League of United Latin American Citizens will visit Grand Rapids on April 14. The group’s annual convention is expected to draw 1,200 delegates and some 10,000 people and generate an estimate $1.4 million for the host city’s local economy. Whether the convention will be held in Grand Rapids, Corpus Christi, San Juan, or somewhere else will be decided sometime in summer 2006.
