The MSU Medical School will expand west into Grand Rapids by a vote of the Board of Trustees. The program would take advantage of, and significantly enhance, the major medical infrastructure rising in the city.
According to excerpts from the story:
Michigan State's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to expand the university's medical school to Grand Rapids. The school would partner with local research and clinical programs, many of which are already part of or planned for the growing medical hill along Michigan Street.
"The partnership with the community makes this a special medical enterprise," MSU President Lou Ann Simon told board members before they made their unanimous vote.
The move would begin in 2008, with about 50 second-year medical students moving west. By 2010, the first four-year students would begin their studies at the Grand Rapids campus.
