Natural Connections Summit touts sustainability as the world’s future

When it comes to the environment and the global economy, one thing for sure is that the world can’t continue on the path it is on.

That was one of the messages from Earth Policy Institute Founder Lester Brown, who gave a keynote address at the Natural Connections Summit 2006 Oct. 17 at Van Andel Arena. The event was sponsored by the West Michigan Strategic Alliance and the American Institute of Architects Grand Valley chapter.

Brown stressed that China is now the behemoth and consumes more basic resources – grain, wheat, oil and steel – than the United States. Paper production in China could wipe out the world’s forests, and an estimated 1.1 billion cars in China could consume more than 90 million barrels of oil a day.
