Attracting young professionals to the region may cost employers more than hiring the seasoned workforce that’s already here. One local college says the proof is in the numbers, and those numbers generate a higher return on investment when older workers are on the job.

GRAND RAPIDS — Businesses are starting to think hiring employees age 50 and over makes sense because of the attributes older workers bring to the table. Hiring them is also one way to fight an impending worker shortage.
Older workers stay on the job longer, have better attendance rates compared to younger workers, often have a better work ethic, and are less likely to steal.
