The announcement of a new opera practice house planned for Grand Rapids places another jewel in the performing and visual arts community’s crown, joining such notable developments as the only LEED-certified art museum, the versatile new ballet theater, and a dramatically refurbished civic theater.
According to excerpts from the story:
For 40 years, Opera Grand Rapids has rehearsed in empty storefronts and basements, stored props and costumes in people's basements, built sets in borrowed facilities and managed all of it from rented offices.
But a project totaling nearly $2 million will give the company a home of its own next year on East Fulton Street, west of Carlton Avenue, not far from Aquinas College and Eastown.
