Grand Rapids' Parade of Downtown Living, lower home prices could attract new downtown dwellers

With many of Grand Rapids' downtown condo projects now open, visitors will have the opportunity to tour completed units instead of just a model. That, paired with lower selling prices, could entice buyers to make the move to downtown.

GRAND RAPIDS -- Like any other portion of the region's housing sector, today's market for downtown-area condos favors the buyer. Help to quickly sort through some of the options arrives Friday when the annual Grand Rapids Parade of Downtown Living opens its three-day run. Steve Volkers, sales agent for Park Row Condos, 430 Union Ave. NE, said a one-bedroom unit at the newly built rowhouse project recently dropped to $135,000 after having been priced at $160,000 a few weeks ago. "With the price changes and the Parade, I really hope that we're going to be able to move a couple pretty quick," Volkers said.
