Plainfield Avenue has paid its dues—losing potential business development to the nearby East Beltline and Alpine Avenue corridors—but business and civic leaders say a new business boom is underway thanks to new development, expansions of existing businesses, and a topnotch infrastructure.

An uptick in new developments in Plainfield Township could reflect the build-out of Beltline Avenue in Grand Rapids and a successful collaboration between business owners.
Plainfield Avenue, the township's main corridor, has seen marked new growth, said Cheryl Scales, an architect at Progressive AE architects, a member of the Plainfield Avenue Corridor Improvement Authority and a 20-year resident of the township.
"Plainfield Township has always been very good for developers to work in," Scales said. "Their rules are fair and the staff are great."
And commercial growth seems to be picking up.
