River House tops off Michigan’s tallest residential building

After being one of the first projects to tout downtown condo living as the new wave of urban renewal and break ground on the state’s most ambitious high-rise residential project, Grand Rapids’ River House topped off construction with ceremony.

According to excerpts from the story:

GRAND RAPIDS -- It took a little more than two minutes to hoist the final, small white steel beam, topped with a fir tree and American flag, into place atop the new king of the West Michigan skyline Thursday.

All the while, Robert Grooters, the developer who made it happen, looked up at it like a kid watching his favorite ball player hit one out of the park.

"That's amazing, pretty wild," said Grooters, who will own one of three two-story penthouse units atop River House at Bridgewater Place.

Hundreds of construction workers, future residents and others involved in the River House condominium tower joined Grooters for the "topping out" ceremony.
