Recyclers clear remains of Eastown building

The ‘green’ building phenomenon in West Michigan involves recycling materials for reuse, and now those ‘green’ principals are at the fore of cleanup efforts after an explosion destroyed one building on the SE side.

According to excerpts from the story:

Most of what is left of a two-story Eastown building leveled by a blast is being recycled. Grand Renovation crews are going through piles of debris to sort out steel beams, wood,

"I feel better about it, plus you can't afford not to do it in some cases," said Ken Coeling, 36, who owns Grand Renovations with dad Bruce, 63.

Since last week, Coeling and his crews have been pulling out metal, concrete and bricks, all to be recycled.

"We pick through it. It's very labor intensive. But with the economy being slow, I keep my guys busy," he said.
