City joins Wyoming to help sell Steelcase land

According to excerpts from the story:

The land between 44th and 36th streets once served as the hub of Steelcase's worldwide production, but over the past decade the company has shrunk its operations and workforce, moving jobs to Mexico and elsewhere. The company essentially stopped using the buildings last year.

The land and buildings are valued at $103.5 million, about 2.6 percent of the total taxable value of Grand Rapids, according to the city treasurer's office.

Most of the land sits in the city of Grand Rapids, but a triangle-shaped chunk of Wyoming east of Eastern Avenue juts into Grand Rapids. The weird border is a remnant of the land-grabbing battles between the municipalities before 1959, when Wyoming was a township.
