An inaccessible area of Mulligan’s Hollow has been transformed into a $450,000 urban skate park, which attracted more than 100 skaters and BMX thrill-seekers on opening day.

"Most excellent," "really awesome" and "sick, man" were some of the accolades being tossed around by skate boarders and BMX bikers following Friday's opening of the city's new skate park at Mulligan's Hollow.
More than 100 young people and one city councilman -- Mike Fritz, sporting his son's skateboard -- flooded the 13,700-square-foot cement park overlooking the waterfront around 12:20 p.m. They had to keep their excitement at bay during a short ribbon-cutting ceremony by city officials. The ribbon, some might say fittingly, was a piece of yellow police caution tape.
