Holland's Johnson Controls keeps supply chain in-state with provider of lithium-ion battery element

Crain's Detroit Business reports that a Holland manufacturer of high-tech lithium-ion car batteries has signed an agreement with Michigan-based supplier Soulbrain for a key ingredient to produce what could be billions of dollars' worth of product.

According to excerpts from the story:

The electrification of Michigan's auto industry is no longer static as electric cars, Chevrolet Volts and Nissan Leafs, are in customer garages and on city streets. That's good news for the companies along each aspect of the supply chain -- down to the chemicals for the lithium-ion batteries.

Johnson Controls Inc., LG Chem and A123 Systems Inc. all have lithium-ion battery plants in operation or under construction in the state. Local suppliers to this new automotive technology are cropping up as a result, including the state's only supplier of electrolyte, Soulbrain MI Inc.
