While conducting a review of the results from a recent strategic planning survey, Grand Haven Township officials say they see changes in the way residents feel about development and how to use the land. Officials didn’t expect residents to support the mixing of land uses—including residential, industrial, and agricultural uses—which some officials say is a dramatic change.

Grand Haven Township officials were surprised with some of the results from a late-winter strategic planning survey, conducted mostly using the Internet.
Township Manager Bill Cargo presented the results of the survey, which asked residents various questions about community and economic development, utilities, transportation, public safety, parks and recreation, finance, environment and governance, during Monday's Township Board meeting.
One of the most "surprising" facts officials learned is that a majority of the 227 residents who participated in the survey in March and April would support having a "balanced mix" of residential, industrial commercial and agricultural land use in order to sustain the rate of development in the
