Lakeshore study seeks to improve access to public transit

As transportation needs along the vast geographic region of West Michigan's lakeshore continue to grow, mass transit providers have hired a local advocacy group to study the needs and determine where the gaps lie. Although the area transit system has plans for expansion, it may not be enough.

According to excerpts from the story:

The Macatawa Area Express plans to increase its fixed bus routes from three to seven and the number of stops from 81 to 223 by Sept. 4.

"The geographic footprint of where we're going to go is just huge," said MAX Marketing Assistant Brittany Pollard.

Although MAX is doubling -- and a number of other area nonprofit organizations provide transportation in special circumstances -- the nonprofit organization Disability Network Lakeshore is conducting surveys to determine what transportation needs may remain unmet.
