The City of Zeeland hopes its first liquor license in nearly a century will attract more businesses downtown, especially a fine dining restaurant that would spur activity and attrace shoppers. The first liquor could be served at a local pizzeria by the first of the year.

ZEELAND -- Vitale's Pizza will be the first restaurant to serve beer and wine in the city since voters in November overturned a nearly century-old ban on liquor sales.
"We could be serving in six to eight weeks," Vitale's co-owner Ryan Snyder said.
The Michigan Liquor Control Commission approved the pizzeria's application for a Class C liquor license. That approval is contingent on Vitale's passing an inspection by the commission's enforcement division.
