The opportunity to study workplace environments and apply the knowledge
to new office furniture innovations could invigorate West Michigan's
office furniture industry. A Newaygo-based remote workplace community
catering to telecommuters provides the ideal environment for
researching current and future work trends.
According to excerpts from the story:
Development of a business center in
downtown Newaygo to cater to telecommuters provides Haworth Inc. a
potential laboratory from which to learn. Haworth hopes to use the
Stream Community Business Center to study the physical and social
workplace environments of so-called remote work sites and apply the
knowledge to product development.
"The field
is ripe to harness in terms of learning," said David Fik, a workplace
strategist in Haworth's Ideation R&D unit. Holland-based Haworth
will supply all the moveable walls and office furniture for the
project, which also could demonstrate how the company's modular
products work in interior design and readily reconfiguring an office.
Fik said the information gained from the Newaygo project could prove
valuable.
